ISRAEL NOW HOSTAGE TO THE ARAB SPRING

There is a most thought provoking claim by Nicholson
Baker in the May/11 edition of Harpers. He claims that Hitler kept
the Jews of Europe hostage. So long as America stayed out of the
war, the Jews could be saved. It was on Dec. 7 when America entered
the war that the Holocaust began in earnest. Let's look at some of
his evidence:
The Holocaust was the biggest hostage crisis
of all time. Hostage-taking was Hitler's preferred method from the
beginning. In 1938, after Kristallnacht, he imprisoned thousands of
Jews, releasing them only after the Jewish community paid a huge
ransom. In occupied France, Holland, Norway and Yugoslavia, Jews
were held hostage and often executed for local partisan activity. On
February 28, 1941, the New York Times carried a troubling dispatch
from Vienna:"Many Jews here believe that Jews throughout Europe will
be more or less hostages against the United States' entry into the
war...The Reichsfuehrer had (that) in mind when he spoke of the
elimination of Jews from Europe 'under certain conditions.'" ...In
response to this threat, The American Hebrew ran a defiant
front-page editorial: 'Unless America backs down, the Jews of
Germany will be butchered.'
The leaders of Arab nations
besieged by rioters obviously know that NATO is sending its
high-tech weaponry to assassinate Ghadaffi. But they also know that
the US, less than secretly, removed Mubarak as head of Egypt. As I
wrote at the start of his demise:

Groups Website and you will see that the Egyptian clashes have
hit surprisingly close to home for them. That's because none other
than their own
Mohamed ElBaradei, sitting on their board of trustees, is the
self-proclaimed leader of the unrest unfolding across the streets of
Cairo. The International Crisis Group's recent condemnation of
ElBaradei's detention and admission of his membership amongst "the
Group" is accompanied by calls for the government to stop using
violence against the protesters.

is back. Unless the US immediately plugs its bloody interference in
the Arab "spring," Israel gets it. Just look at Egypt and Syria
planning Israel's mortality openly:
Egypt's military rulers promised him transfer his base, command
center and residence
from Hamas' political leader Khaled Meshaal in troubled Damascus to
a new haven in the Gaza Strip as an
inducement for signing the Palestinian unity agreement with Mahmoud
Abbas' Fatah on May 4.

Meshaal:"If there is no stability here, there's no way there
will be stability in Israel. No way, and nobody can guarantee what
will happen after, God forbid, anything happens to this regime."
He advised the US and Europe not to "put a lot of pressure on the
president, don't push Syria to do anything it is not happy to do."
The Syrian president is examining two strategic options, he said:
"Going to war against Israel, and/or sending weapons shipments to
the
West Bank and to Israeli Arabs for use in terrorist attacks against
Israel.
In Damascus, Bashar Assad's close
confidante Rami Makhlouf threatened that Syria would go to war
against Israel in reprisal for US and Europe backing for the
uprising.
If Bashir Assad goes, so will Israel. And he has 120,000
missiles of all ranges, types and warheads to back his threats. If
Egypt starts starving to death, as every sign points to, it will
join in the massacre of all Jewish Israelis. It could well be a
bitter spring for the hostages.
